This is a deep dive into our rage room — how the base package works, how the upgrade tiers actually stack, and what we'd point you toward for a date night, a girls' night, a birthday, an anniversary, or a bigger group. Axe throwing, VR, and the paint room get their own section further down.

The base package keeps it affordable

$44.99 per person, 30 minutes, up to 6 people in a private room, sledgehammer/bat/crowbar plus gear included, staff clean up after. That covers 20 small items (mugs, plates, wine glasses) and 5 medium items (vases, an old DVD player) per person — plenty for most guests who just want to blow off steam without planning around it. Upgrades are where things change entirely: that's how furniture, appliances, and TVs get into the room, and how the whole session gets bigger.

Capacity is per person, so bring people

We never mix groups or add random people to your reservation, so if you book solo, you get the entire room to yourself for 30 minutes. The 20 small and 5 medium items are per person, not per room, so every person you bring adds their own 20 small + 5 medium on top of whoever else is in there. A solo session is 20 small + 5 medium total, but bring 3 friends and the same room has 80 small + 20 medium items in it before anyone's even touched an upgrade. If you want more to smash, the cheapest move is bringing more people, not necessarily paying for a bigger tier.

How the upgrade tiers actually stack

Each upgrade stacks on top of your base entry instead of replacing it. Here's what the base entry alone gets you, before any upgrade:

Base Entry ($44.99) — 20 small, 5 medium, 0 large, 0 XL, per person.

And here's what each upgrade adds on top of that:

Outrage just gives you more small and medium stuff to break. If you actually want a large item, like furniture, an appliance, or a TV, Big Smash is the cheapest way to get one. Most guests are still swinging when the 30 minutes runs out, so honestly any tier works out fine. But if a large item is what you're after, skip Outrage and go straight to Big Smash, since that's the first tier that actually has one.

Date night and anniversaries: we already built the shortcut

This is the one occasion we've actually turned into a fixed booking instead of leaving you to configure it yourself: "Date Night," 2 players with the Big Smash upgrade pre-applied, $124.97 flat. Skip the tier math above entirely, just pick a date and room. It exists because a couple wanting one large item to break together is common enough that we stopped making people build it from scratch. Anniversaries fit the same shape — book Date Night as-is, or step up to a custom Wrath booking if two of you want more than one large item between you.

Girls' night, guys' night, best-friend trips

We actually have a pre-made booking for this one too, called "Duo" — same idea as Date Night, just without the upgrade baked in. It locks in 2 players at base entry, so you skip straight to picking a date and room. If you want a large item split between the two of you, add an upgrade on top of it, same as you would with any custom booking. One of our actual reviews sums up the sizing question better than we could: "The rage room was so much fun for me and my bestie... we did an upgrade for more items, and it was the perfect amount. We had just finished the last item when the timer went off." That's an Outrage or Big Smash-level upgrade being exactly enough for two people — Wrath and Overkill are built for bigger groups, not duos.

Birthdays

No dedicated birthday package yet, but there's a real feature that makes a booking feel like a birthday instead of a generic time slot: a $5 custom celebration message add-on. Tell us the line you want and we paint it onto a mirror or glass pane inside the room, so the birthday message becomes part of what gets smashed instead of a banner taped to a wall. For a bigger birthday group, don't try to oversize a single rage room past 6 people — the team building and bigger-group options are covered below.

Bachelorette parties and bigger groups

Once you're past 6 or 7 people, stop trying to make one rage room fit. The rage room has its own 10/15/20-person team building tier with its own group pricing, so you're not paying an inflated per-person rate trying to cram a bachelorette party of 10 into upgrade tiers meant for 6 people. If your group wants a change of pace instead, axe throwing tops out at 24 people across lanes with individual instructors — more on that below.

Axe throwing, VR, and the paint room

Once the rage room math above makes sense, here's the short version of how our other three activities work. Axe throwing's base $29.99/hour includes a standard axe, lane, and instructor — knife, butcher knife, spear, and ninja stars are $9.99 each ($24.99 for all four) and genuinely optional, not gated the way rage room's large items are. It also has its own 10/15/20-person team building tier. VR splits into two bookings rather than tiers: Action VR Games ($19.99, 25 min, combat, solo-friendly) works as a filler before dinner; Escape the VR ($29.99, 50 min, puzzle-based, 2–5 players) is the one that fills an actual planned evening, closer in feel to a date night than a quick stop. The paint room has no upgrade psychology at all — $24.99 for 30 minutes with 7 bottles and a canvas per person, extras like a second canvas or a paint gun are $2.49–$3.49 and purely optional, and it's the only one of our four with no age minimum, which makes it the default when your group has anyone under 18 in it. It also has its own 10/15/20-person team building tier.

Bottom line

If you're not sure a large item matters to you, don't pre-buy one — base entry (or Outrage) covers most people fine. If it's a couple's night, book Date Night and skip the math. If it's a bigger group than 6, look at team building pricing before you try to force everyone into upgrade tiers built for smaller rooms. And if there's a kid in the mix, the paint room is the one built for that from the start.
